Walcha Township is serviced by both a central school catering for infants, primary and secondary students plus a private catholic school catering for infants and primary. Public schools are also located in the villages within the shire.

There are several Secondary Day and Boarding Schools located in Armidale, which is only 63 km from Walcha, and Tamworth, 93 km from Walcha. There is a daily bus service that leaves Walcha at 7.15am and returns about 5.00pm for children to attend schools in Armidale.  In Armidale the boarding schools include New England Girls School, Presbyterian Ladies College and The Armidale School which is a boys only boarding School. In Tamworth the boarding schools include Calrossy Girls School and Farrer Agricultural High School (boys only).

TAFE Campuses are located in both Tamworth and Armidale.

University of Armidale (UNE) offers a broad range of Tertiary educational courses and facilities.
