The District is serviced by three Police Stations - Walcha (3 policemen), Nowendoc (1 policeman) and Walcha Road (1 policeman). Walcha also has a local Court House which is open every Thursday.

There is an Ambulance Station in the town with two full-time Ambulance Officers in attendance. The Shire is also serviced by the Angel 3 Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service which is based in Tamworth.

Walcha and surrounding districts are serviced by the NSW Rural Fire Service and a Brigade of Volunteers run the local Fire Station. State Emergency Services also have a brigade in Walcha.
