Council is provided with flood related indemnity under the Local Government Act provided it has developed a management plan in accordance with the process outlined by the State Government in its Flood Management Policy. To this end, Walcha Council has commissioned a Floodplain Risk Management Study for the township of Walcha. The Study is to determined the level of flood protection of the Walcha levees, the flood risks to people and property if the levees were overtopped, and possible ways of reducing these risks. The Study forms the basis of investigations and advice, to residents and businesses of Walcha, the Council, SES and other relevant personnel, regarding the awareness, response and minimisation of the risks associated with flooding. Council have now approved a Draft Walcha Floodplain Risk Management Study & Plan and currently have it on Public Exhibition at the Council Chambers until 4.00pm Thursday, 23 July 2009. During this time written submissions on the Draft Plan will be received by Council. An Executive Summary of both the Walcha Floodplain Risk Management Study and Walcha Floodplain Risk Management Plan are available below. A Public Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 8 July 2009 at Walcha Council Chambers commencing at 6.00pm. The consultant for the Study will be present to answer questions on the Plan. Contact details
